Since April, the season of silence has officially started in Ukraine: what you need to know and how to behave in nature

The silence season is a period when wildlife needs special care and peace. Find out why silence is important for animals, what rules should be followed in nature, and how to travel in an environmentally friendly way
On April 1, Ukraine officially began the “season of silence” that will last until June 15. This is the period when wild animals are actively breeding, giving birth to offspring, and especially need rest. Established at the legislative level, this season is extremely important for the conservation of our country's biodiversity.
Silence season in Ukraine: why it is important
Spring and early summer are critical times for most species of wild animals, birds, and fish. It is during this period that they build nests, raise chicks, give birth to babies or spawn. Any interference or noise can disrupt these natural processes: frightened animals may abandon their young, and birds may leave their nests. Silence is not only about peace, but also about the chances of survival for the next generation of wildlife.
Silence is the key to life: all about the season of silence
The requirements for the “season of silence” are enshrined in the Law of Ukraine “On Wildlife”. During this time, the following activities are prohibited
- shooting and fireworks;
- blasting and sanitary felling of forests;
- use of motorized vessels;
- holding car races in the natural environment.
However, these restrictions are not only about the law, but also about ethics. It is a manifestation of respect for nature, the realization that we are only guests in its house.

Rules of conduct during the silence season
To avoid harming wildlife, you should follow simple but important rules:
Be quiet - do not play loud music, do not shout.
Walk only along the paths - do not go into dense thickets where there may be nests or dens.
Do not touch animals, even if they seem to need help.
Build fires only in authorized places and always put them out.
Clean up after yourself - pick up your garbage, or better yet, pick up someone else's.
Following these recommendations will ensure peace and safety for wildlife, as well as preserve its wealth for future generations.
