A new checkpoint “Velyka Palad - Nodhodos” has been opened on the border with Hungary: opening hours

A new checkpoint for cars and pedestrians has been opened on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border.Find out how the Velyka Palad - Nogodos checkpoint works, what benefits it provides to travelers, and what else will change on the western border by 2030
On April 8, 2025, a new checkpoint “Velyka Palad - Nagyhodos” was officially opened on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on his Telegram channel. This is an important event for the residents of Zakarpattia and all Ukrainians traveling to the European Union through Hungary, as the checkpoint is open for cars and pedestrians.
The new checkpoint is located in the Transcarpathian region, near the village of Velyka Palad, and on the Hungarian side, in the village of Nagyhodos. The opening of this checkpoint will help relieve other checkpoints in the region, reduce queues and speed up border crossing.
Opening hours and functionality of the new checkpoint “Velyka Palad - Nogodos”
The Velyka Palad - Nogodosh checkpoint is open daily from 8:00 to 20:00 Kyiv time. It is focused exclusively on passenger vehicles and pedestrian traffic. This is especially important for the local population, residents of border communities, and Ukrainians who often travel to the EU for personal or business reasons.
The checkpoints have already been equipped with:
● areas for car inspection,
● pedestrian routes with sheds
● a technical area for border guards and customs officers.
The launch of the new checkpoint will allow to handle more than 70 thousand cars and 220 thousand pedestrians annually. This is a significant improvement for the western border of Ukraine, which has been under constant pressure in recent years due to the increase in travel abroad.

Modernization of the border by 2030: what else is planned?
The opening of the Velyka Palad-Nogodosh checkpoint is only part of a large-scale program to modernize Ukraine's border. According to official government plans, by 2030, Ukraine plans to upgrade 29 existing checkpoints and build 17 new ones. This will create a modern, convenient and safe border infrastructure that meets EU standards.
In addition to infrastructure changes, it also provides for:
● introduction of joint customs and border control with neighboring countries (Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Romania)
● digitalization of all processes at the border - from registration to document verification
● updating the technical base for border guards and customs officers, which will allow for faster and better inspections.
These measures will not only make life easier for Ukrainians traveling or working abroad, but will also help strengthen economic and logistical ties with the EU.
