New international trains to run from Poland: where Ukrainians can conveniently get to

The expansion of PKP Intercity's international route network will make it easier for Ukrainians to travel to Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Lithuania and other countries. Announced routes include new flights to Leipzig and enhanced connections to Berlin, as well as additional connections from Przemyśl and Chełm to major European cities. Find out how the changes will affect the convenience and speed of travelling between Poland and foreign destinations
The Polish railway company PKP Intercity has announced the expansion of its international route network, which will take effect in December this year. First of all, connections with Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania and Ukraine will be changed. This step should improve transport connections for passengers, including Ukrainians, who will be able to get to European cities more comfortably and quickly.
What routes are they going to launch?
New flights to Germany
One of the most anticipated innovations is the launch of trains to Leipzig, Germany, a city where Polish passenger trains have never reached before. By the end of the year, two routes will be operating:
1. from Krakow with stops in major cities, including Wroclaw;
2. from Przemyśl via Rzeszów and Tarnów.
As noted by PKP Intercity, this will significantly improve the possibilities of interchanges in Leipzig for travelling further - to Munich, Frankfurt or Stuttgart. It is also planned to add the seventh Berlin-Warsaw express train, and the schedule will also include the night route Przemyśl-Berlin, which will include cars from Chełm via Warsaw and Lodz. Representatives of the carrier emphasise that this will be the first night train service between Poland and the German capital in many years.

Connections to Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia
For passengers wishing to travel to Austria, the Czech Republic or Slovakia, pleasant changes are also being prepared. In the evening, a night train will depart from Przemyśl, Rzeszów and Tarnów, heading to Vienna, Munich and Prague. At the Krakow station, its cars will be connected to the existing IC Chopin train, and in the Czech Republic, the chain of cars will be split again to go to different cities.
In addition, PKP Intercity intends to increase the number of daily services from Krakow to Prague and Vienna, and direct trains to Munich, Bratislava and Budapest will be launched from Wroclaw. From Poznan, it will be possible to travel to the Austrian capital without changing trains. This development of routes will significantly simplify logistics for Ukrainians staying in Poland and planning to travel across Europe.
New route from Warsaw to Lithuania
The Polish operator is actively developing its network towards the Baltic countries. At the end of the year, a second connection will be added to connect Warsaw with Kaunas and Vilnius, in addition to the existing IC Hańcza. As with the existing route, passengers will transfer to a Lithuanian train in the area of Motskava (near the border). Thus, travellers from Ukraine travelling to the Polish capital will have a convenient option to continue their journey north to Lithuania.
New flights for Ukrainian passengers
PKP Intercity also pays attention to improving railway connections in the east of the country. The company plans to expand the number of services from Przemyśl and Chełm to connect Poland and Ukraine even more closely. As a result, new international trains will also be available in cities such as Łódź and Kalisz, which will simplify transfers and make travel more comfortable for Ukrainian citizens.
