Ryanair will soon be introducing a number of important changes to check-in, hand luggage allowances and fines. Find out when the new rules will take effect
Ryanair, the Irish airline known for its affordable fares, has announced a series of changes that will come into effect in 2025. The new rules will affect electronic check-in, hand luggage allowances, and the system of fines for not meeting time limits. These measures coincide with the carrier's desire to fully switch to a digital service format and optimise operational processes.
Priority of electronic boarding passes
One of the key innovations is the introduction of electronic boarding passes. From May 2025, passengers will need to have a boarding document uploaded to the Ryanair mobile app. While home-printed boarding passes will continue to be accepted, it will no longer be possible to print the document directly at the airport.
Ryanair's management emphasises that this measure reflects the airline's policy of gradually phasing out traditional check-in counters and moving towards digital customer interaction.

New requirements for hand luggage
The company is also tightening control over compliance with the rules for the carriage of hand luggage. From now on, only one bag up to 40×20×25 cm in size will be allowed on board free of charge, which must fit under the seat in front. If these dimensions are exceeded, the fine at the gate can reach 70 euros.
Travellers have already noted that Ryanair has become much stricter in checking dimensions, often fining even a slight deviation from the norm.
In order to take a second, larger bag (up to 55×40×20 cm), you will need to purchase the Priority Boarding service. If your baggage exceeds these limits, it will have to be checked in and checked out at the baggage claim.
Penalties for late boarding
In order to improve punctuality, Ryanair has introduced a large fine for those who do not make it to the gate on time. For being late, you will now have to pay 120 euros. The airline strongly recommends arriving at the gate at least 40 minutes before departure to avoid financial penalties and possible delays.
