Romania has several major airports serving international flights, but not all of them are equally convenient for Ukrainians. Find out more about the Romanian airports closest to Ukraine and how to get there

Due to the closed skies and the lack of direct flights from Ukraine, many Ukrainians are looking for alternative travel routes. One of the most convenient options is to fly from the airports of neighbouring countries, in particular from Romania, where you can find direct flights to many European cities.

What documents do I need to travel abroad?


To travel abroad, you need to have the following documents (depending on the purpose of your trip)


- Foreign biometric passport.

- Child's travel document (if necessary).

- Diplomatic passport.

- Service passport.

- Seafarer's identity card.

- Other documents required by international treaties of Ukraine.

To travel abroad in your own car, you need the following documents:


- A valid national driving licence.

- Vehicle registration certificate.

- Identification mark of Ukraine on the car.

- A licence plate of a national standard.

- Compulsory insurance contract Green Card.


If you are travelling by your own car, you will need a Green Card insurance policy, which is mandatory for travelling abroad. To avoid problems when crossing the border, we recommend that you apply for a policy quickly and conveniently on the Visit Ukraine portal.

The following airports are currently operating in Romania:

However, not all Romanian airports are convenient for Ukrainians, as some of them serve only domestic flights, and some are too far from the border, making them geographically inconvenient.


In this article, we will look at three of the most convenient airports for Ukrainians, which are located in optimal locations and offer a wide range of services.


Henri Coanda International Airport in Bucharest (OTP) is Romania's largest airport, located just 16.5 km from the capital, providing quick access to Bucharest and major international flights. It is ideal for those planning to visit the capital or continue their journey to other parts of Europe.

Iasi Airport (IAS) - located close to the Ukrainian border, making it accessible to residents of the Chernivtsi region and other regions of Ukraine. The airport is equipped with a new terminal and offers comfortable service, as well as convenient transport links to the city.

Suceava Airport (SCV) is the closest airport to Ukraine, located in the city of Suceava. It serves both domestic and international flights and has all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay of passengers.

How do I get to the airport in Romania?


By train


There is no direct railway connection between Ukraine and Romania, but you can get there with a transfer, in particular by train 351 to Moldova. Thus, at 08:18 am, the train will arrive at the Ungheni station in Moldova, which is located near the border with Romania. There, you need to go through customs and change to train No. 821 Chisinau - Iasi - Falcon, which departs from Ungheni at 09:51 and arrives at 11:12. From the station you can get buses to the city centre and the airport.


By bus 


● To Henri Coanda International Airport in Bucharest:


Kyiv - Bucharest: price from UAH 2,100, journey time from 17 to 22 hours depending on the route.

Lviv - Bucharest: price from UAH 3,100, journey time about 15 hours depending on the route.

Odesa - Bucharest: price from UAH 1,600, journey time from 11 to 14 hours depending on the route.

Dnipro - Bucharest: price from UAH 2,700, journey time from 19 to 23 hours depending on the route.

Chernivtsi - Bucharest: price from UAH 1,500, journey time from 9 to 11 hours depending on the route.


● To Iasi Airport:


Kyiv - Iasi: price from UAH 2,000, journey time about 17 hours depending on the route.

Lviv - Yassy: price from UAH 1,700, journey time from 18 to 21 hours depending on the route.

Odesa - Yassy: price from UAH 1,700, journey time from 8 to 11 hours depending on the route.

Dnipro - Yassy: price from UAH 2,500, journey time about 18 hours depending on the route.

Chernivtsi - Iasi: price from UAH 1,700, journey time from 12 to 15 hours depending on the route.
